TECA

The event complex aberdeen (TECA)

The UK's most sustainable venue

Opened in August 2019, The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA) is a world-class £330 million complex.

With P&J Live at its heart, two onsite hotels, plus development land, the complex is the UK's most sustainable venue, all powered by an onsite Energy Centre and AD plant using renewable energy sources.

Replacing the Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre (AECC), the 15,000-capacity main arena now hosts conferences, exhibitions and music concerts and has been designed to attract major artists and events to the city. P&J Live also boasts three further conference and exhibition halls, four multi-purpose conference rooms, and nine meeting rooms.

Europe's largest new events complex, TECA was part financed through a £370 million stock market bond issue; a Scottish Council first. Its BREEAM standard also symbolises Aberdeen's commitment to leading the global energy transition.

The onsite energy centre provides clean, sustainable, and reliable energy featuring the largest hydrogen fuel cell installation in the UK. Originally pioneered by organisations such as NASA, fuel cell technology now provides a well-proven commercial heat and power solution whilst an anaerobic digestion plant uses agricultural crops, waste products, and food waste to produce renewable biofuel. The energy centre, which is a modular design, has the potential to supply sustainable energy to the remainder of the wider masterplan development area and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The new facility is expected to contribute an additional 4.5 million visitors and £63 million net GVA to the Scottish economy.

With unrivalled public transport connections, the site is located next to Aberdeen International Airport, the UK's most connected regional airport, and the new £745 million Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR), and is in prime position for the improved rail links between Aberdeen and the North of Scotland.
