Home to a rich talent pool

Skills levels are a key component of the region's success

The presence of the oil and gas industry has placed the Aberdeen City Region at the forefront of science and engineering excellence for over 40 years. A wealth of talent and expertise lies within the region, not just directly in oil, gas and engineering but also in the other disciplines required to manage successful, international organisations; over 22 of Scotland’s top 100 businesses are based in the area.

The working age population of the Aberdeen City Region is forecast to increase by 15%+ to 2039, this is markedly higher than the 1% projected growth nationally. Regional investment in further education talent development is one reason for this.

The region is home to two universities with courses specialising in a wide range of subjects including Robotics, Science and Engineering, Architecture and Business, all of which result in an extensive pool of graduates. The universities ensure a constant stream of graduate talent join the already highly-skilled workforce in the region resulting in experts who are at the cutting-edge of their fields. In fact, Aberdeen is ranked in the top 10 cities with the highest percentage of high level qualifications.

Both the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University have also benefitted from £multi-million investment, providing state of the art campuses and multidisciplinary research centres and institutes.

The Aberdeen City Region is primed for business and Invest Aberdeen is here to help.
