Supporting our business community: COVID-19

Responding to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Both Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City councils continue to liaise closely with the UK and Scottish Governments and will provide clear and concise information for all businesses to ensure timely access to accurate information about all available support.

Together with partner organisations, both local authorities will work, as far as is practically possible, to lessen the negative impact that is being felt from the effects of COVID-19. We appreciate that this is a very difficult time for your business and are here to support you.

Jobs Support Scheme
This scheme will replace the previous Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (see below) and will run for six months from 1 November 2020.

This scheme will top-up salaries in firms that can't take employees back full-time. To be eligible, employees must work at least a third of their normal hours. For the remaining hours not being worked, the government and employer will each pay a third of the wages.

The scheme is open to small and medium sized businesses (usually defined as firms with 250 employees or less). Large businesses whose revenue has fallen due to coronavirus will also be eligible.

Further information to follow.

Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme
The scheme is open to all UK employers that had created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on 19 March 2020 (extended from the original date of 28 February 2020). This scheme will close on 31 October 2020.
*Please note: This scheme is not being administered by local authorities. Employers will need to apply directly to HMRC via the online portal.
